Our Story
Not that long ago, the members from the Dalit community, who used to work in the fields of the upper caste men, were provided food by digging holes in the house premises. The women did not had the right to cover their upper body. Long ago? But not that long. There is a long way to go to mitigate all forms of oppression and discrimination faced by the members from the Dalit community.
In 1998, Jan Vikas Sansthan was formed on the premise that the women and children from the marginalized Dalit communities shall be assisted to bring improvement in their life situations. A Dalit women faces double discrimination, one on the basis of her gender and the other on the basis of her caste. A women who faces double discrimination in the society, will need to put in extra efforts to reach to the forefront. They are treated with disrespect and they lack justice of all forms.
The adolescent girls from the community also face similar situations. They are treated as second category humans by those who are privileged. It is not easy for them to run a life similar to those whose life is illuminated with the privileges of all kind.
This is where Jan Vikas Sansthan intervenes. We help them build a life where they know from where to demand justice. We help them understand the functioning of the society. By understanding which they build a better life for themselves. In a society, which is still burdened with discriminations of all forms, even after 75 years of independence, it is a need for the social sector to come up with ever-revolving ideas to break the chain of discrimination.
